Benefits of Eating Dates

Assalamu Alaykum (peace be upon you), I have not worked on this website for sometime as I was having some techincal and admin issues to running this website. Alhamdulilah, I am back and ready to really bring some more benefit to others through my writing. The motivation for starting this website was to initially earn income, but Alhamdulilah, I realize that there’s a far greater advantage, which is to help others and share beneficial knowledge.

Benefits of Eating Dates

Alhamdulilah, I have gotten into the habit of eating dates. And I will share with you the impact it has had on my health. I have been eating Khudri dates recently, which are quite chewy and uplift energy and sugar levels in the body, during times when I feel tired. As for Ajwah dates, Muslims know the benefits of eating these dates, which is protection from the evil of sihr. These dates are mentioned to be dates from Jannah (Paradise). Although Ajwah is beneficial for these reasons, it is very expensive thus most people may not be able to have them regularly. On a side note, I have been planting a Ajwah seed, it takes quite some time for it to grow. These dates have such a great benefit, that we as Muslims should try to have them in the home.

Dates and Energy Levels

Dates also provide a great boost to energy levels, and are a great source of fibre which helps in digestion. I recommend having dates as a snack when your at work or school as they will increase your sugar levels in a healthy way providing more mental energy for your work. All dates have these benefits, so it does not have to be a particular kind of date. As for digestion, because this is important for your body to absorb the food that you eat, dates also provide benefit with that process for the body.

Dates and Weight Gain

It was told from Aisha (R.A), that to gain weigh she had eaten dates with cucumbers. Eating dates with cucumbers was also the practice of the Messenger (S.A.W.S). Thus you get the reward of implementing the sunnah while also helping your body to gain weight if that is what your body needs. This can be helpful for those who are underweight and need to add more weight in order to be at healthy levels.


Dates in the Quran & Sunnah

Dates have been mentioned in the Qur’an when Maryam Alayhisalaam the Mother of Isa (Jesus) Alayhisalaam was giving birth to Isa A.S. It is mentioned that she was instructed: “Shake the trunk of the palm toward you and fresh, ripe dates will drop down onto you.” (Surah Maryam: Ayah 25). It is such an important staple food item that the Prophet Muhammad saidL “People in a house without dates are in a state of hunger.” (Muslim). The mention and significance of dates from the Qur’an and Sunnah is enough evidence that this fruit is important, and Muslims should opt for this instead junk food like potato chips when grocery shopping.
